Panorama Seeks More Organic Grass-Fed Ranchers

Vina, Calif., April 29, 2010 —

Demand for organic grass-fed and finished beef growing

Panorama Meats, the nation’s largest producer of USDA Certified Organic and 100 percent grass-fed and finished beef, is enlisting new family ranchers for its program. Panorama seeks to increase its supply of organic grass-fed and finished cattle in order to meet increased consumer demand.

“Panorama’s mission is to help family ranchers make organic grass-fed and finished cattle ranching a viable economic strategy,” said Mack Graves, CEO of Panorama Meats. “We are also committed to helping our rancher partners employ systems to protect delicate rangelands for future generations.”

Grass-fed beef ranchers can take advantage of Panorama’s strong retail presence to realize a premium price and a guaranteed market for their beef, Graves said. Panorama, he added, handles all the processing, marketing and merchandising to the consumer, allowing family ranchers to focus on ranching.
Graves said Panorama also has systems in place for helping Panorama ranchers meet requirements for USDA Certified Organic status.

Panorama helps ranchers establish what Graves calls “holistic systems” to assess the status of their land, evaluate ranching practices and create record-keeping systems to meet Certified Organic requirements. The Certified Organic process can take up to three years if the history of a rancher’s grazing land has not been meticulously documented.

Panorama also educates ranchers in land management and rangeland preservation techniques based on the experience of its founding ranchers, who have won national environmental awards for rangeland stewardship. Earlier this year, Panorama founding rancher Darrell Wood and his family were awarded the 2009 National Environmental Stewardship Award at the 2010 Cattle Industry Annual Convention.

Panorama cattle are raised entirely on pastures of natural grasses, legumes and range forage. Cattle are never implanted with hormones, fed animal by-products or treated with antibiotics.  All animals are raised in compliance with the Born and Raised in the USA® verification program.

Its ranchers treat their animals humanely in low-stress environments and employ pasture-rotation and land-management practices that promote animal health and protect delicate rangeland ecosystems.

Ranchers who want to find out more about joining the Panorama program and becoming Certified Organic should contact Wayne Langston, Vice President, Production at (530) 310-1196 or by e-mail at langstoncattle@frontiernet.net. Panorama Meats Rancher Receives National Environmental Stewardship Award

Vina, Calif., February 1, 2010 —

Vina, Calif., Feb. 1, 2010 – Panorama Meats producer Leavitt Lake Ranches was awarded the 2009 National Environmental Stewardship Award at the 2010 Cattle Industry Annual Convention in San Antonio on Jan. 28.

Owned and operated by Darrell and Callie Wood along with their son Ramsey and daughter Dalice, Leavitt Lake Ranches in Vina, Calif is one of the founding ranches of Panorama Meats, Inc. It earned the award because of its commitment to environmental stewardship while improving production and profitability.

The Environmental Stewardship Award is sponsored by Dow AgroSciences, the USDA National Resources Conservation Service and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and is administered by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the National Cattlemen’s Foundation.

The Woods’ environmental stewardship practices on the nearly 40,000 acres of Northern California rangeland that they own, lease or manage include restoration of vernal pools and protection of wildlife habitat for native species, including mule deer, pronghorn antelope and upland game birds. They have also improved irrigation systems and riparian conditions, and improved the habitat for spawning wild salmon. Additional information about the award can be found here.
Panorama Meats, the nation’s largest producer of organic grass-fed beef, processes beef raised by Leavitt Lake Ranches and distributes it as Panorama Organic Grass-Fed Beef to Whole Foods Market stores in Northern California.

California Rangeland Trust and Panorama Meats Partner to Protect Threatened Rangelands

Sacramento, Calif., July 7, 2009 –The California Rangeland Trust has partnered with Panorama Meats, Inc. of Vina, Calif. in a joint effort to support the long-term conservation of California’s rangelands. Beginning this week, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of all Panorama Organic Grass-Fed Beef sold in California will be contributed to the California Rangeland Trust to assist ongoing work to place conservation easements on working cattle ranches.

“The partnership with Panorama Organic Grass-Fed Beef and the California Rangeland Trust is an exciting new endeavor to further the sustainability of rangeland conservation and agriculture in California,” said Nita Vail, Chief Executive Officer, California Rangeland Trust.

Mack Graves, Chief Executive Officer of Panorama Meats, said, “Panorama’s ranchers have a vested interest in preserving the rangelands where their cattle graze. This arrangement demonstrates the strength of their commitment to create sustainable grazing lands for future generations.”

The California Rangeland Trust uses conservation easements to protect rangelands from development and other threats. These conservation easements are voluntary, legally recorded agreements between the landowner and California Rangeland Trust, which permanently restrict the land to agricultural and open space uses. Today, California Rangeland Trust holds conservation easements on over 186,000 acres of rangeland on thirty ranches, ensuring that these working landscapes will be forever protected.

Panorama Meats Exclusively Supplies Organic Grass-Fed Angus Beef from Northern Arapaho Indian Tribe to Whole Foods Market Rocky Mt. Region

VINA, Calif., and BOULDER, Colo., May 19, 2009 – Panorama Meats, Inc., the nation’s leading organic grass-fed beef producer, has partnered with Arapaho Ranch, the nation’s largest certified organic cattle operation, to supply Panorama Organic Grass-Fed Beef exclusively to 28 Whole Foods Market stores in the Rocky Mountain region beginning this week.

Operated by the Northern Arapaho Indian Tribe on 595,000 acres on Wyoming’s Wind River Indian Reservation in West Central Wyoming, Arapaho Ranch received USDA organic certification in 2008. The tribe has raised an all-Angus herd —a breed known for producing tender, highly flavorful beef — on a year-round diet of grass and forbs since the 1940s.  Its 3,500 cattle and 2,800 yearlings never enter a feedlot, are never fed antibiotics or growth-stimulating hormones and coexist with predators and a diverse mix of wildlife on Wyoming’s high plains.

The agreement, resulting from a half-year of discussions between Panorama and the Northern Arapahoe Indian Tribal Council, makes Whole Foods Market stores in Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas and Utah the exclusive U.S. retailers of Arapaho Ranch beef.

“The Arapaho Ranch product will further grow the Whole Foods Markets’ access to locally-raised food since the cattle are raised in Wyoming and processed in Colorado,” said Mack Graves, CEO of Panorama Meats. Panorama will process Arapaho Ranch beef in compliance with its own and Whole Foods Markets’ standards for safety and humane animal treatment.

“We’ve been searching for an organic, grass-fed beef supplier that would offer our shoppers high-quality beef at a good value,” said Dave Ruedlinger, Meat Coordinator of the Rocky Mountain Region. “Since Panorama’s beef is also local, raised and harvested within a 7 hour-drive, our shoppers will revel in the taste.”

The Northern Arapaho tribe is committed to maintaining the biodiversity and ecological balance of its land. Even wolves and coyotes, normally regarded as cattle’s predators, are protected. The cattle move freely over abundant pastureland, sometimes spurred to move by those very predators — a natural check against overgrazing. Loss of cattle to predators is miniscule. More information about Arapaho Ranch can be found at http://tinyurl.com/cyg22q.

Many firsts are represented by this recent purchasing commitment:

* First time certified organic and grass-fed beef is offered to customers in 28 Rocky Mountain Region Whole Foods Market Stores

* First time for grass-fed and/or certified organic beef to retail at an average of only $1 per pound above natural beef choices

* First time for the Northern Arapaho tribe to sell 100 percent of their beef to a retailer

Panorama’s relationship with Arapaho Ranch is a major addition to the firm’s existing network of ranchers based in Northern California, Southern Washington and Southern Oregon.

Panorama Organic Grass-Fed Beef comes from cattle raised entirely on pastures of natural grasses, legumes and range forage.
